The topic of digital wallets is more complicated than than the metaphor implies. A physical wallet that you put in your pocket can be as simple as a paperclip, however, a cryptocurrency wallet is a software applications.

Software application are used by people who own cryptocurrencies. The applications aid the user with storing, managing, and transacting digital assets, such as cryptocurrencies.

The hugely important technology behind a cryptocurrency wallet is public key cryptography. This technology allows users to create a unique digital address to receive and send cryptocurrencies, as well as to securely store their private key, which is used to sign transactions.
